A SECRUI door chime for a shop or an office

Customers do not ring a bell. A shop needs to hear the door itself, from the register or from the stock room.

Should a shop use a door sensor or a motion sensor?

A door sensor if the door closes behind each customer, and the Motion Sensor Chime if it stands open. The motion sensor sees a person up to 26 feet away.

A magnetic sensor is the simple case. One half goes on the door, the other on the frame, and the chime rings when they part. It rings on the way out as well as on the way in, which most owners end up liking.

A door that is propped open all summer never moves, so the magnet never fires. That is the job for the motion sensor. Aim its head at the doorway and away from the street, or every passer-by will ring. The receiver sits up to 500 feet away in open air, far enough for a stock room or an upstairs office.

In three steps

How to plan it

  1. 1. Look at the door at noon

Closed between customers means a door sensor. Propped open means motion.

  2. 2. Count the entrances

Kits come with one, two or three sensors, each with its own melody.

  3. 3. Put the receiver where you work

Behind the counter, or in the back room with the volume up.
