A SECRUI door alert for caregivers

A chime does not lock a door or stop anyone. It tells you, in the room where you sleep, that a door just opened.

Where should the receiver go when you are watching a door at night?

In the room where you sleep. The Capsule Door Open Chime reaches 500 feet in open air, so the sensor can be on the front door and the receiver by your bed.

What we would fit

SECRUI kits for this job

Fit the sensor high on the door, above a child's reach and out of the way of a hand on the handle. The two halves must sit within 0.6 inch of each other when the door is shut.

Pick a melody you will not sleep through and a volume the rest of the house can live with. In a kit with two receivers, one can stay in the hall at a low level and the other by the bed at a high one.

A chime is one layer. It does not replace a lock, a gate or a person. Our guide to door chimes for a relative who wanders goes through what the Alzheimer's Association advises and where a chime fits.

How to plan it

  1. 1. Sensor on the door they use

Front door first, then the back door or the stair gate.

  2. 2. Receiver where you will hear it

Bedside at night, kitchen by day. It moves with you.

  3. 3. Test it tired

Open the door at night with the receiver set as you sleep.
